Art Powell has first-hand knowledge of youth gang violence. He became exposed to the criminal elements of the streets at the early age of 13.  By age 15, he was involved with neighborhood cliques, which later became recognized as “gangs”. When Arthur (street name “Art”) was 19 he met a drug dealer who took him under his wing and gave him power to terrify anyone who was against their family (gang), which was called “I Refuse Posse”. From 1988-1992, the I Refuse Posse reigned terror on the streets of Atlanta, and Art was a part of it. In 1993, his criminal activity finally sent him to prison for 11 years and 6 months.

But now, Art Powell is a Bullying and Gang Prevention Expert and Life Skills Coach and has started his own company, Art Powell Gang Expert, L.L.C.  Art offers our youth a path out of the lifestyle of gangs and criminal activities and also educates adults through his speaking engagements and his autobiography, Traumatic Memoirs – Gangsta: To Be or Not To Be (Book 1)

Arthur Powell’s Traumatic Memoirs is a compelling story of how one young man full of life, love, and promise can turn into a cold-hearted person, trying to find love and acceptance in the world of gangs. Gangsta: To Be or Not To Be gives a real-life account of how many of our young people feel when abandoned by family and friends. Art tells a compelling story and gives a first-hand look into the mind of a young gangster. Art’s story opens our eyes to the tragic world of gangs and gang violence.

Powell has shared his expertise with national networks like the History Channel’s “Gangland” and CNN’s “HLN Network.” He’s been
