Dr. Mae Jemison Astronaut and Keynote Speaker at Community Event

Dr. Mae Jemison is a foundation founder, visionary leader, and a national Women’s Hall of Fame member. A women of many talents who has excelled in her many endeavors, Dr. Jemison was the first female black astronaut in space and served as an active duty astronaut for seven years.
Mae Jemison was raised and educated in Alabama and Chicago and at 16 years old, she entered Stanford University for a degree in chemical engineering. In 1981 she received her medical degree from Cornell University. Dr. Jemison has served in the Peace Corps, likes to dance, enjoys the arts, and in 1993, even acted in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, as ‘Lieutenant Palmer.’
At this community event celebrating Black History Month, Dr. Jemison spoke about the importance of education and technology. Passionate about technology and science, she stressed that parents must get their children interested in science at an early age. She also emphasized that all of us have to apply ourselves and take advantage of all of our talents because we all have a responsibility to strive for excellence.
Currently, her company, the Jemison Group, conducts research, markets and develops science and technology for use in daily life, and her BioSentient Corporation works on using space science research in medical devices and applications.
Dr. Mae Jemison was a great speaker for this client and this event and she received a standing ovation! Thanks again Dr.
