The organization Jimmy spoke for helps shape the stories for 5,000 high school and middle school students each year with a risk avoidance course that helps students learn to think critically about their choices and avoid risk-linked behaviors with sex, drugs, alcohol, and violence. The organization gives students the positive peer and adult support they need to thrive. Students learn to set goals, build a positive support system, make healthy choices, and to lead through service. Jimmy Wayne is an award-winning musician, author, and keynote speaker. Jimmy released his debut country music album, Jimmy Wayne in 2003 on the DreamWorks Records label. Four singles were released from it, including “Stay Gone” and “I Love You This Much”, which both reached Top Ten on the Billboard country charts. In 2004 Jimmy had success with “You Are” and “Paper Angels”. A second album, Do You Believe Me Now, was released in August 2008 and its title track became his first Number One hit in late 2008 and “I Will” also made the charts. The third album, Sara Smile followed in 2009 and in 2010, Jimmy released the song “Just Knowing You Love Me.”
Furthermore, Jimmy is the author of Paper Angels, written with Travis Thrasher; a 2011 novel in which Jimmy shares his story about his tough childhood growing up in the foster care system and the steps he’s since taken to support kids in similar circumstances.
Jimmy Wayne is also a superb keynote speaker. Jimmy tells his story of overcoming heart-breaking circumstances with the help of very
special foster parents. With humor, guitar, and song, Jimmy gives a dramatic, heart-warming, powerful presentation that takes the audience through a whole range of emotions and in the end, motivates us all to help our youth become happy and successful. The audience laughed… and cried… and then gave Jimmy a standing ovation!
A strong advocate for helping young people, Jimmy Wayne gives much of his time, energy, and proceeds to supporting homeless youth and the foster system. As part of his Meet Me Halfway project to raise awareness about the problem of children aging out of the foster care system, Jimmy even walked halfway across the United States! He is also a national spokesperson for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).
Backstage, Jimmy told us that he’s writing a new nonfiction book about his life story with Ken Abraham. He’s also excited about working on a Christmas Story movie that he says will be similar to the old Hallmark films and that he’s working on a new music CD/album for 2014. He’s also a super nice guy with a great sense of humor. (Get him to show you his “neck-stretch” trick.)
