Centers and Ramey is an up and coming southern bluegrass band founded in early 2014. Fred Spencer, Lennie Centers, Kyle Ramey, and Jimmie Smith are combing their talents to produce a new and unique bluegrass sound.
Fred Spencer began his musical career in high school playing the drums for the gospel band, Altar of Prayer. After that, he joined his family to play in The Fred Spencer Bluegrass Gospel Band for 11 years. Later, he had the opportunity to play with Jack Green and Dalton Gang, where he boasts many performances at the Grand Ole Opry and even a performance at the White House. He’s opened for some of country’s greatest artists and is now plays bass and sings baritone for the band, Centers and Ramey.
Lennie Centers first began his career traveling with the Goins Brothers. He later formed the band, Silver Creek, which is often credited for a new bluegrass sound often found in today’s bluegrass music. He toured with Timmy Cline and in later formed his own band, Vintage Sound. Lennie has shared the stage with some of the most notable bluegrass performers, such as Ralph Stanley, Marty Stuart, and Allison Brown. He now plays guitar and is the lead singer for Centers and Ramey.
Kyle Ramey was born in North Vernon, Indiana in 2002. His love for bluegrass began early on when he began mandolin lessons. He moved on from the mandolin to the guitar, banjo, and even fiddle. By the age of six, he released his first CD called “A Boy and His Mandolin”. He has traveled extensively throughout the south to perform and he’s even played on stage with Rhonda Vincent, The Grascals, Dailey and Vincent, and many more. Now Kyle plays the mandolin, fiddle, and is the alternate singer for Centers and Ramey.
Jimmie Smith began playing banjo at age 13. He played his first gig on stage with the Darrell Abrams Band, and that’s when he decided to pursue a career in music. Since then, Jimmie has played with the Larry Fuller Band, Borrowed Thyme, and many more. Now he plays the banjo and sings tenor for Centers and Ramey.
