It all started in a highchair just before Logan turned two. She was singing This Is The Day, while eating dry Cheerio’s. I watched in amazement as she made it all the way through the song without missing a word. She was 23 months old. At that time we attended a small country church with one man that handled everything. He taught the word in both scripture and song. The church had no nursery at that time and Logan was always in the service with us and I guess she just picked up on the songs that we sang often. We told the pastor, Pat Polis, about what she could do and he let her sing on the following Sunday. A performer was born. He continued to let her do new songs she would learn and she is forever grateful to him for she believes that is why she has no fear of an audience today.
As she began to explore her music abilities she found that she loved the piano and began taking lessons at four years old. One of the sweetest ladies around with great patience, Marinel Edwards, started Logan on a musical journey that has led to other instruments and many great teachers and mentors through the years. Logan Murrell now plays the guitar, piano and mandolin.
From that small church pulpit, to the Civic Auditorium, Logan has been blessed with many opportunities to share her talents with Knoxville and the world. She has been a part of several productions in Pigeon Forge, beginning with Elwood Smooches old Smoky Hoedown when she was nine. She was the featured vocalist of the 2006 Clayton Christmas concert with the Knoxville Symphony. She shared the stage at the beautiful Tennessee Theater with the Knoxville Opera in the production of La Boheme’ in 2007. She then spent the rest of the 2007 season at Country Tonite Theatre. All while traveling the country with her dear friend Jim Clayton and doing shows from Colorado to Orlando and continuing to practice her instruments and growing her abilities to carry a show by herself. In 2008 she is on her own as Logan Murrell and having a blast traveling around the southeast sharing her passion for music.
She says the stage productions are fun, but she much prefers to be up close and personal with her audiences and to have the freedom to change things up every now and then. She also enjoys being able to spend more time learning the theory, engineering, mixing, and producing of music from her long time mentor and friend Darrell Puett. She is beginning to write some songs and hopes to put out a CD of originals soon. Although country music is her true love, she also is influenced by some of the other musical greats as Chicago, James Taylor, The Beatles, and Karen Carpenter.
Logan attends public school and is a 4.0 student. She has a baby sister Taylor whom she adores and loves to spend time with. She wants to continue to go through school like anyone else and keep life’s experiences in the proper order. She wants to attend Berkley school of Music in Boston, but says she may just go to Belmont in Nashville to make Mom happy. Fame? “If it happens I can handle it, but chasing it is not my top priority.” Logan Murrell spends her summers traveling to state fairs and doing local public and private country and pop music performances.
