Gospel and Christian group Higher Authority was walking off the stage and a man in the crowd shouted to them “That is what heaven must sound like!” For over a decade, Higher Authority has represented an interesting contradiction; gentle, caring, beautiful young women, who are not afraid to take an aggressive, almost warlike stance when it comes to the message of their music and serving God. That full submission echoes throughout the collections of songs that they’ve written and the lives that they lead.
Higher Authority is working on their next project “I’m His Favorite”which includes a Spanish version of their melodious tune ‘Say Wow’. “This is a song that celebrates the glory of God and will have you saying- Wow!” When ministering one evening, a man approached Higher Authority and expressed his love for the song Say Wow although he said he did not understand much of it. Desiring to reach more people with their music, Higher Authority promptly recorded the song in Spanish.
Since releasing their album “Definition of a Remix” in 2008, Charity, Khristi, Vennetta, and Zimika inspired fans with such intimate songs, as “Father” and such bold songs as “Not Today”. The gospel group received an award for best original composition from the San Diego County Fair, acappella Contest for “I am” –which demonstrates their intricate singing harmonies and flawless blending.
Staying deeply devoted to their local community, Higher Authority is willing to lend their voice to many of the outreach programs throughout San Diego. They have partnered with various organizations such as the Daniel Foundation for helping inner city youth and the San Diego rescue mission which inspires and helps women. They have also helpedwith the Get on The Bus: Sistas for Souls tour in Las Vegas, Nevada. The focus is always on sharing what God has placed in their hearts.
The gospel music industry is on the rise in San Diego and Higher Authority is glad for these opportunities. They performed in the First Annual Christian Film Festival Award Show, they had their Music played on San Diego’s first 24 hour gospel music radio station, KURS, they were interviewed by host Duane Watson of “In the Spotlight” and gained airplay on KIFM with Eric J. Chambers host of “The Jazzspel show”. Higher Authority is excited to be part of what God is doing in San Diego.
‘I’m His Favorite’ has songs that deal with dark areas of today’s culture. For instance, the CD combats promiscuity with a song called V.I.R.G.I.N. and ‘I’m His Favorite’ which shares the uplifting message of God’s love.”
Higher Authority worked with award winning producers such as Jeff McCullough, Lew Laing, and Rodney Jones who helped them take their sound to new heights. “We started our career singing only acappella. Now after working with these amazing producers and musicians, we’ve opened the door for more creativity and inspiration in our music.”
