Born on May 12, 1964 in Tennessee, American chef Carla Hall is best known for being a finalist in season 5 of Bravo’s reality series Top Chef. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1982, and even earned a degree in accounting from Howard University’s Business School.
Chef Carla worked for two years at Price Waterhouse and obtained her CPA certificate, but found her passion elsewhere. Carla Hall spent years working as a runway model in Paris, Milan, and London. It was there that Carla found her calling in the culinary arts.
Carla Hall then moved back to Washington, where she launched Lunch Bunch, a lunch delivery service. After four years of work there, she enrolled in L’Academie de Cuisine in Gaithersburg, Maryland and eventually received her Culinary Career Training certificate. She then served an internship at the Henley Park Hotel in 1996, where she was promoted to sous chef. This was followed by a position as the executive chef at the State Plaza, a sister hotel, and the Washington Club. In 2001, she started her own catering company and called it Alchemy Caterers.
Several years later, Carla Hall was chosen as a contestant on season 5 of Bravo’s reality series Top Chef. She impressed the judges of the series, earning a spot as runner-up in the end. Carla’s popularity continued even after the show was over, especially since Hall was known for cooking “with love.”
After Top Chef, Carla Hall continued to flourish, as she worked on being the executive chef and owner of Alchemy Caterers. She even landed a spot on the May 3, 2009 cover of the Washington Post Magazine, on a feature called “Fit for Fame”. Carla Hall has also been chosen to partake in D.C.’s “Farmland Feast,” a dinner that will boast of produce from the Chesapeake Bay region.
Carla Hall is married, has a stepson, and later returned to television for Top Chef season 8.
