Seth Meyers performed for twelve seasons on “Saturday Night Live,” his second season as head writer, sharing the title with Andrew Steele and Paula Pell, and his first season as co-anchor of “Weekend Update,” alongside Amy Poehler.
Seth Meyers joined the SNL cast in 2001. In 2005, he was promoted to writing supervisor, and in January 2006 he became co-head writer, sharing the role with Tina Fey and Andrew Steele. In 2004, he auditioned to co-anchor “Weekend Update” with Fey, but lost out to Amy Poehler.
With Fey’s departure, Seth Meyers became head writer for the 2006–2007 season and also took on the role of Weekend Update co-anchor with Amy Poehler. After the departure of Poehler, Meyers anchored solo between 2008 and 2013.
In sketches, he has performed numerous characters and impressions, most notably, an uncanny portrayal of Senator John Kerry for the show’s satire of the 2004 Presidential election.
A graduate of Northwestern University, he studied and performed at Improv Olympic (where many SNL cast members and writers got their
start, including current cast members Rachel Dratch, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler) before moving on to the Boom Chicago Theater in Amsterdam, Holland. His acclaimed show “Pick-ups and Hiccups” with partner Jill Benjamin toured Europe and eventually caught the eye of “Saturday Night Live.”
Seth Meyers appeared in Paul Weitz’s “American Dreamz.” In addition, Meyers is writing the script for an upcoming feature “Key Party” for Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video Motion Pictures and recently completed filming “Journey 3D” and “Spring Breakdown” alongside “SNL” cast-mates Poehler and Dratch.
In 2013, it was announced that Meyers had been chosen to replace Comedian Jimmy Fallon the following year when his edition of Late Night ceases production in 2014. Seth Meyers takes over Late Night on Feb. 24, 2014.
